It does a lot of flashy FX & doodly stuff like shapes, so if you're into putting flowers & hearts & stars all over your photos, Pixelmator is for you. There is almost nothing you can't do with Gimp. It even uses Photoshop plugins.Anyone willing to spend an hour or two can master the basics, opening the door to the magical world of unlimited creativity. It has a clean, dark grey interface that is infinitely customizable & comes preloaded with tons of incredible filters, brushes & plugins, with hundreds more available free online. Gimp used to be a Windoze app with a reputation for being unwieldy & hard to use, but the new version, GimpShop 2.8.2 for Macs, runs native on Macs & is much easier to learn & use. Acorn is more spendy & it isn't perfect, but it's easy to use & does a lot.But compared to Gimp, both of these are kids toys with basic, limited features & toolsets. ![]() On windows people who own photoshop use the windows native application "Paint" for simple tasks because it opens very fast and it has simple and easy to find buttons.With Pixelmator you don't need any other program or app for editing or drawing or something else because the app works very fast. This is the kind of "Mac magic" that especially people who change from Windows to Mac feel when using it the first couple of times.Another problem most big image editing programs have is that they need so much time for simple things. Very often it is like:"Dude, I wish I could do that just by pressing this button." You press it and it happens. But is has or it almost has as much features as photoshop.When you use Pixelmator the first time you will notice a very intuitive and nice UI.You don't need to proofread help files and handbooks to understand what to do. Those programs tend to overwhelm you with features and I know some people that stopped editing photos at all because they didn't want to bother, they didn't want to invest time into learning how to use those complicated suites.Pixelmator is the opposite of complicated. I sometimes had more than 5 windows of Pixelmator open while editing pictures for a Powerpoint presentation without any notable impact on system performance.So if you are looking for a nice, easy to use image editing app, I definitively recommend to try Pixelmator. Jpg file or if you want to professionally edit a picture that you want to print and hang on your wall.Everything works smooth and nice and you don't have to wait a lot of time just till the program window is open.
